Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute

What is very interesting is that this college was founded in 1854. The first all-boys school in the city of Brooklyn, it opened its doors at 99 Livingston Street in Brooklyn Heights. The “Polytechnic Institute,” as it soon came to be known, offered an academic program designed to rival that of the most prestigious boarding schools of the day.

Over the next thirty-plus years, the school flourished, and its rigorous college preparatory program attracted students from all over Brooklyn and New York City. Upperclassmen took a full college-level course of study, and eventually it became clear that the preparatory school and the collegiate division should be separated. In 1891, a new building was constructed nearby to provide space for the college, now known as the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.

Later, the Polytechnic Preparatory Institute continued to thrive at 99 Livingston Street, and by the mid-1890s had become one of the largest preparatory schools in the country, with over six hundred students. The students of the Polytechnic Faculty took an active part in the formation of the school, creating a newspaper, a drama society, and a debate club, as well as urging the school administration to provide more opportunities for sports.

Under the leadership of Headmaster William M. Williams, the Polytechnic Institute began its transition to coeducation in the mid-1970s, graduating its first class of girls and boys in 1979. At the time, the principal, and trustees had a progressive view that young people should learn in an environment that reflected the makeup of the world around them. The admission of girls was only the first step in creating the diverse student body that is now the Polytechnic Institute.

Esports program

When it comes to teaching esports, the 2019-20 academic year was the first year for a team based at the Polytechnic Institute, or Poly as it is known here. The team participated in an esports league among high schools. Later, the Vanta High School Esports League was added to the program. This was done specifically so that students and teams could participate in more games. Both leagues give students the opportunity to compete against other high schools across the country, showcasing their competitive skills in matching battles and building a social community with other players.

By participating in eSports, students improve their critical thinking skills and ability to adapt to different scenarios, quickly finding solutions to the many challenges they face, and demonstrating resilience and focus. Poly’s eSports teams and game strategies are led by Pasquale Cioffi, a lecturer at the Faculty of Technology and manager of network and systems.

The set of games supported by the leagues changes every year. Among the Poly teams that represented the university in these popular competitive game series were Rocket League, Fortnite, Overwatch, Counter-Strike, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and MK1.

Esports leagues

Overall, every esport’s league has a mission to improve the gaming experience for students. This school wants to make esports accessible to every student as a legitimate varsity sport in high schools across the country. This is achieved here by giving teachers the ability to easily offer students the opportunity to participate in healthy esports competitions surrounded by peers and under teacher supervision. Through organized eSports competitions, students are able to connect their dedication to gaming with success in their studies and future careers.

Overall, Vanta’s mission is to be a part of a team, to learn to win with flying colors and to lose with dignity. To feel strong and support each other. This is what traditional sports add, and they integrate these principles into the curriculum, platform, and esports leagues to help children aged 8 to 18 grow into smart and accomplished people.
